Ok, think we have the ammonia figured out.. it's from chloramine:

Quote:
EPA Guidelines set a maximum allowed level of Chlorine of 4ppm. Most water supplies target 2-4 ppm Chlorine. Note that 4ppm of Chlorine is actually 5.8ppm Chloramine. (The Chlorine is 69% of the chloramine molecule, ammonia is the other 31%) So, with a possible 5.8ppm Chloramine, you have 4ppm Chlorine, and 1.8ppm ammonia.

I am sure Nautilus mentioned getting an R.O.D.I. filter, this would help or follow the suggestions on that page.

Newie you should use a TDS meter on the RO water from walmart as I heard they never do any maintenance on them just to cover that base.

500 on the calcium is not good but not bad either. If your corals are OK then it's great.
If you get an RO unit it will pay for it's self in a short time and the waste water can be used for plants or the garden or washing machine.

Please still keep me posted.

Thanks
Dave

You will spend alot of money just for the DIfilter if using the tap water hook up kind. that money could buy a new ro/di unit and wala extra savings.

you would think it would be ok right? maybe it is a question ill post. my damsels are getting vicious now. they are constantly knocking off my rocks now. leveling out the LR and such best they can. the smaller rocks with polyps and shrooms on them getting affected. even saw the big one nipping at the shrooms today several times.. maybe its time to get them out.

Now have fun doing that I am still trying to get 3 damsels out of my tank.
LFS said to use a small fish hook and yank them out... have never tried doing that though.
