They passed a law here not to long ago that gas stations had to have emergency generators to pump gas. They are all crying about the added expense now. When the next hurricane comes around we'll see how well prepared they are.

Hope the bad weather stays away.

Man sorry to hear about that Scott. Let me know when you need help moving that generator. I thought about getting a little plug in one for this house. Mommy has given me the green light to get a whole house generator on our next house that will hopefully be out in the sticks...

The little plug in one I borrowed was nice to get water moving and get the kids a TV and VCR playing to get them out of my hair. Just a pain in the butt with all extension cords running through the house.

I want it automatic......need a robot to do it.....

Something I'm looking at Otty is a transfer switch taht mounts outside that you run the 240v from a portable genny to and then that transfer switch is hooked to specific breakers in your main breaker box, I didn't want to do a permanantly mounted genny cause I don't plan on staying in this house but for maybe a couple of more years, next house I'll definetly have a NG powered genny outside on a slab but may be something to look into those transfer boxs are cheap, couple hundred bucks if you already have a portable generator

I have a 5.5kw gen that can run quite a bit, fridge, tank, ect

Juggling between a 18kw or 20 kw with a 200 amp automatic transfer switch. Need it big enough to run tank and house essential. Kids were a pain last night with nothing to do and me running around the house like a chicken with my head cut off didn't help matters any.

haha yeah i can see that, i just have a little 1k sq/ft condo so a 5.5kw runs nearly everything in my house, my wife's work is having a 50kw installed for their shop and a 15kw for their IT room, which is a whole 3 servers lol told them it's overkill

Having a generator is rather handy! but if bad comes to worst keep only things like your main pump, 6 or so hours of light for your corals and maybe a skimmer it shouldn't be much of a load, I had a 30g with fowlr in P.R. in 98
when this big hurricane(can't remember the name) because there is so many
every year, that knock the power of for 5-1/2 days. my tank had over 8 big fish in it half of them angels and about 40 pounds of LR, and if I would of left it alone instead of changing water and stuff they all would of made it. only lost my flame angel, and prolly due to stress by me messing around with it, what I am trying to get to here is,most fish can live up to 48hrs
in a bag from the LFS, which has far less oxygen, 5 hours w/o power is more stressful than what it really is.

otty:

the natural gas home generators are the way to go, they can either power your whole house or a specific circuit, to save some money you go with the later. there small and look like your a/c compressor. easy to install, even by yourself, they sit outside. if your gonna do it yourself, have nicor check the gas line with the sniffer.

I am waiting on a quote back now on the 20kw LP powered with 200 amp auto switch gear hole house generator. Should have it on the truck today. Getting it done this time and not letting it slip my mind until next outage. Sucks living in the sticks every once in a while.
