| 125 Gal ??? What do you all think?
I stopped by the LFS 2day to grab some LS and pic up a couple more lbs of LR when there it was.....A 125 gal tank w/stand.The set-up includes a 30g sump, RedSea protein skimmer ,RedSea wavemaker, 2 1200 Maxi-Jet powerheads, a Kent Marine RO/DI 3 stage unit, for lighting it has 3 MH 175w and 2 96w PC blues.
The LFS is including 125lbs of LR and also LS, the tank is ready to go just add water. He told me today he'd help me set it up when we're ready. The price $2000 cash takes it home.
What do you think?
Thanks

| Re: 125 Gal ??? Hard to say about being a "good deal" - problem is you will never really know without doing the market research & learning gained from from putting all the components you want together yourself.
Sure this is an easy way to put a system "together" - but I think you would miss out on much "fun" and "learning" by buying a complete system like this.
If you are in a big hurry, or going to depend on another to keep it up and running effecintly - go for it.
On other hand, you may want to reconsider and purchase/put together all components on your own. (much good and free advice to be had from right here at 3reef) - Many to help you from making a bad turn...
Of course, some trial and error to be expected initially...and will cost you some...but "lessons learned" = "priceless" for something hopefully you will be living with and enjoying for years to come. Your "contentment" and "happiness" not to mention the very lives of your fish and other tank critters is going to depend much on your complete understanding of every single component of your system and their effect on the welfare of all concerned. - and knowing you made the best choice you could on each with the resources available at time...
Buying a "canned" / "complete" system is a choice I could have easily made starting out - but am glad now I did not take that path.
FWIW,
OmarD _________ AG "125," AquaC EV 180, 30 gal sump, "SCWD", 80 lbs LR, CoralSeaLife "Moonlite" Hood, PFO 250W HQI Mini-Pendant (SPS HQI 14000k bulb)
12 Gallon NanoCube - 24w stock PC 50/50 light "...nothing good ever happens fast in a reef tank, only bad things happen fast..."

| Re: 125 Gal ??? I've had my 55g in a reef, running now for some time now and did it that way in your reply omard,I feel I know enough to get the system up and running properly and not jeapordize the life of my coral/fish and many other critters abound. I would get the 125 set and running before I dropped my animals into it. I'm somewhat board with the size do that there isnt enough room to add the things I really like, nor is a 55g
worth the effort of MHs due to its size, but thats just my veiwpoint, I think the price of the 125,LR and LS is a great deal alone,my LFS gets $6 a lb and thats $750 there, and another $250 for LS and base sand, throw in the tank and the 72" PFO fixture with all the trimmings I thinks it's a steal. But I'm still thinking bout it.
I just thought this was a great deal.
Thanks

| Re: 125 Gal ??? I can't add much here. You've done your research and it is not your first tank so the decision is yours. I would consider another 75 lbs of LR if you want a full reef. The rule is 1.5 - 2 lbs of LR per gallon. _________ Just tryin to recreate God's perfection in a glass bowl. 20 Gallon Reef W/Live Rock, mated pair of Maroon Clowns, Softies, 110 watts PC 10,000k lighting, and skimmer. http://www.3reef.com/uploads/1craig400.jpg |

| Re: 125 Gal ??? I think it is a good deal. I have a 125 and my light set up alone was $1000.00 and I have the same lights except 3 250 watts. 200 lbs od live rock was close to $500.00. So right there is 1500.00 .Is it a used tank? And is it in good shape? I think it is a good deal if he will stand behind the RO and skimmer and all other equipment. |
