| New 30 Gallon Freshwater Hi everyone,
Just started a 30 G freshwater tank a few days ago. Today I put the first inhabitants in: 2 beautiful Albino corydoras and 5 Neon tetras. I'll more fish over the coming weeks.
Here are a few pictures.
The Tetras seem to have a fascination with the Corydoras as they follow them around (very cautiously) and swim away if the Cory's move even the slightest. Very funny to watch!
I'd appreciate any suggestions or comments.
I'm somewhat concerned with the water temperature now, which is at 81, I'm not sure how to lower this... |

| Re: New 30 Gallon Freshwater Have you unplugged the heater? Perhaps it is malfunctioning....
Is the room the tank is in warm? or cool?
try leaving the lid open and perhaps getting a fan to blow on top of the water..... |

| Re: New 30 Gallon Freshwater You could also put a ziplock baggie with ice in it and float it to see if that helps as well... |

| Re: New 30 Gallon Freshwater I havn't unplugged the heater but the pilot light is not on. The room is very warm. I've kept the lid open for a while. I'll try the ice baggie, that should work.
Thanks! |

| Re: New 30 Gallon Freshwater Is your light Incandescent light or fluorescent? Incandescent lighting gets very hot and can raise the water temp rapidly. I have to little tanks with incandescent and the heat used to be a constant problem. I found a compact fluorescent that screws into the light socket. It provides more vibrant lighting an lower heat.
Here is a link of a similar product. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...;N=2004+113030
I bought mine at Wal-mart they are not the same brand but they were cheaper.
BTW, your tank temp won't go lower than your room temp without some kind of intervention. Floating a bottle full of Ice is a quick but temporary solution. You can also get a chiller but they are expensive.
