Eventually my pleco was actually eating tropical fish flakes as well as the pesky snails that had overgrown the tank.

I think the bottom line is that a healthy pleco will live in anything >30gals.

There are also Rubber plecos that only grow about 2" long. I had 2 in my 29 gallon and they did great. Now they are in my 150gal with my very large pleco because I sold my small tank. They are still doing great! My large pleco eats all my dead fish that I can't reach in my tank.
