Need advice-Fish Tank-3reef Forums

Hi,
I have a 15 gallon tank,w/an air stone,Penguin 150,tank lined w/stones and 3-6" artificial plants to one side of tank and a hood w/light. I will also treat the tank w/BIO Spira before getting the GF(goldfish).

I hope to put two goldfish in the tank but need to know which type of goldfish I can get that will not out grow the tank. I've read that they need a lot of room but I 'am hoping that some one can suggest a type of GF that will not outgrow the tank.

There is a lot of data on GF out there but I feel better asking 3reef members.

ive never heard of a gold fish out growing there tank

ive never heard of them getting so big that they out grow the tank.i think if your gonna do 2 you should be good.

most fish not all fish will grow to the size of the tank, my advice for a 15gal would be to but the smallest gl fish you like and let them grow to the size they grow, if eventualy you tink that they are too big for your tank then you can return then and swap them for smaller ones
MY favourite gf would be the pearl scale fat little buggers hehe

I'm not sure what type won't outgrow that. All I can tell you is don't get tricked into getting a feeder goldfish since they're small. I rescued one from a bio class once, took it home to my 10 gal and it became a Godzilla sized fish a a few short months. He was very pretty though, with gorgeous fins, especially for the $0.39 that they cost. So as long as you don't mind exchanging them out after some months time you should be fine.

Oh, and you'll want real plants in there. Plastic is great and all but goldfish are meeeeeeeeessssy! (They'll love you all the more for real plants)

The two will out grow the 15g tank. Goldfish get roughly 10"-12" full grown. They eat like crazy and you will have nitrate issues in about 6 months unless you being doing larger more frequent water changes. Unfortunately, all goldfish will get large. My recommendation for a 15g is to either have a larger tank ready for them in about 1.5/2yrs when they'll need it or do a tropical community fw tank.

Why G/F you ever kept them before ?? I can help you But I'd go with some F/W tropicals G/F are nasty and the slime they produce is a stinky mess they are just colorful Carp . And you will need a hell of a powerfilter a and filter Comets are O.K the Red cap's celestials and smaller KOI are colorful but they are all Carps ):

Cause they're pretty

I like gf, they got tons of personality

Get a large enough filter somthing like the largest Fluval or Ehiem you can find or you'll be cleaning it twice a week.. (: A small Diatom would be an asset also..

I just started a 15 gal. tank with 2 gf and I 'am seeing that things are going wrong too often. Without getting into the negative let me seek advice on ICH. Yes I've gone to the disease section on this forum but I will ask any way.

I think one of the gf has ICH because it has little white specks on its fins & body. That being said:
will it spread to the other gf soon?

will using KORDON 100% organic ICH Attack be a good thing?

can I treat ICH with both gf in the tank I do not have anywhere to separate them?

I am sorry to say that I did not consider what could go wrong with keeping fish. I only considered the part that gf were relatively easyt to keep.

PS I just recently did a water change because the ammonia was to high.

I do not have live plants in the tank and I am feeding pellets. What can I do?
