| Spend your money on a generator. Runs as long as you can supply it gasoline. I lasted 7 days without power with no problem with one. _________ Reefkeeping blog and podcast at http://www.120gallons.com. Sunday March 2nd 8 pm est - Fish and Invert Breeding Roundtable Podcast Live! |

| I agree with getting a generator. The battery backup is good if youre not home and the power goes out, but then again the time it will stay running is limited. _________ 90 gallon tank with center overflows, 44 gallon custom sump/fuge, Tek T5 retrofit 4x54 bulbs, Reef Octopus nw200 protein skimmer, Iwaki WMD40RLXT return pump (changed to panworld 100pxx),Knop c ca reactor, PA light house controller. | I use the APC UPS 650. It will run my sump pump and heater for 55 mins. I also have a backup gas generator if necessary but we've never had a power out for longer than 20 mins. | yea, i think we in florida are looking a for a long term power solution; after a hurricane you're LUCKY to get power back in a week, and I know of many a reef tank that was completely destroyed because of it. If those battery things can't even last a day, a generator is a much more worthwhile investment (for those of us with power outages due to severe storms anyway). Better to be SURE your backup will last as long as you need it. Your are afterall, insuring a LARGE investment (both mentally and monetarily).
