Lots of confusion about common name for this fish.
    See: WhooHoo....New fish!

aka: Brownbarred Sleeper Goby, Dragon Goby, Bullet Goby, White-Barred Goby, White-Spotted Goby.

Just added to tank a week ago and has settled in nicely with other tank inhabitants.

A very striking and beautiful fish. Florescent blue/green spots/stripes on head and dorsal fins. It has fine dark bars on the body that are edged with light blue. A very distinctive spot on tail

It can be employed in a utility role in the reef aquarium as it will help keep the upper layers of live sand stirred by taking mouthfuls and then expelling it through its gills. It does this almost continually.

Unlike other gobies, it spends most of its time, when not grabbing mouthfuls of sand, swimming along with other fish in water column.

Will grow up to 6 inches long and will eat just about anything other fish do.

Spends much of time building nice symmetrical mounds of sand on tank bottom, which my Coris wrasse enjoys leveling.

It will leave fine layer of sand over certain areas that it likes to spend time in that has to be periodically cleared with a turkey baster. Really a insignificant problem for such a cool fish.

Have not seen my Brownbarred Goby for last couple of days. Suspect it has finally passed on to the great reef in the sky.

While constantly sand sifting, did not seem to get what it was looking for to eat.

Would not touch any other kind of food. Gradually starved to death. Not pretty to watch going on and no way to catch because of eating habits.

Took a little over two months to die.

FOTM - Apr '08 - Brownbarred Goby (Amblygobius phalaena)

Would not recommend this fish to anyone!!!
