I have a 30 gallon tank with an Aqueon 30g filter. I want to make a refugium out of a 5 gallon tank that i am currently not using to give it the benefits of the refugium and better filtration. Is the 5 gallon tank enough for the 30 gallon and how should i construct the refugium??

You sure can. If all you want is a refugium, all you need to do is have a drain and a return. Just make sure none of the sand and macros go into the return pump chamber. About the design... I'm not sure with an hexagonal tank, but I'm pretty sure it's nothing than a few well glued sheets of acrylic can't fix. Let me look around and see if I find anything like that.

Can i breed food like shrimp, mysis and brine, in the refugium?? Or what other type of food can be bred in the refugium, other than copepods...

You can't breed brine shrimp in there, they require much higher salinity than sea water.

you can probably breed amphipods if you can find a culture. of course there just big copepods to most people.

Do it! Its a great place to grow macro and pods. You could also get quite a deep san bed in a hex tank. I wonder if you could drill it for a simple over flow? that would make it even cooler.
