Default UV "Water Purifier" Cleaner things

Do the UV water purifiers really help much? I've had some problems with my tank and the fish getting ich lately and was thinking maybe one of these units could help... I have a 14 gallon bio cube reef tank and think maybe water flow might be an issue. I have no interest in setting up a separate hospital tank as I've not the room nor the cash to do so.
NOTE: I do have a power head and keep a pretty close eye on the water and salinity.

NOTE: I am a fairly new hobbyist of just 4 months.

Your display tank is fourteen gallons, so you wouldn't have anything needing a large hospital tank. Just a cheap ten gallon, fill it with water from your water changes, heater, powerhead, maybe a piece of rock from your other tank and you're basically ready to go. All that could be purchased for the price of one or two fish that you are risking losing otherwise?

As for room we're talking about two square feet tucked away somewhere, even in a closet or something would work as long as you had a power source.

In the process of building --
55 gallon display, 10 gallon sump, letterbox fuge, 260 W odyssea pc lighting, to be continued...
