Default UV Sterelizer Question

Sup brothers....question: can UV sterelizer prevent coraline growth?

Reason I'm asking is 'cause I have a UV sterelizer running 24/7. A couple of months ago, I had a green water problem, so I bought the UV and it fixed the problem and kept my water crystal clear. I know for a fact that the UV sterelizer will kill "free floating" bacteria and organisms; it won't kill what's already attached to fish (ich) or the LR or LS, but what about the good stuff? I wonder...

Side note...an odd thing happened, I bought a coral beauty angel fish the other day, it looked good and healthy...once i got home though, and put it in the tank, I noticed what looked like ich....after 24 hours it was gone....I asked a friend of mine who also has a UV unit and he told me the UV, although not known to cure or kill whatever ills the fish, may have gotten rid of the ich in its initial state...I wonder too...

Anyway, any info about UV units and coraline growth will be greatly appreciated....laters.

From my exp., I would have to say no. I also ran a UV once on an previous tank for about 4 yrs and my coraline never stopped growing. Coraline has to do with cal. Have you checked your Cal? As for the ick, fish also get ick when they get stressed. My understanding of ick is; all fish have ick, its the "slim" coating that prevents the fish from having the out break. Once you CB gets settled in your tank and is feed properly, it should be fine. Hope this helps, Luna

Was the ich gone in 24hrs, or was the CB gone (dead) after 24 hrs?
I'm treating my tank this week with "Stop Parasites", and after 3 days of that, my blue tang is looking much better. I tried Melafix last week and did not see any progress. But the pH did go down from ~8.3 to almost 7.4 from the Stop Parasites treatment - but I also tested it last night at about 11pm, and the pH is known to drop some at night...I'll be picking up some pH buffer right after work and probably be doing a 15% water change too.
