Type of pump for return?

I have a question regarding the type of pump to use for the return from the sump to the main tank. What is the best pump to use for this? Submersible, like a Mag or an inline such as Iwaki? I hear of the negatives of submersible with regards to heat generated by the pump, but are the pros greater than the cons of a submersible pump?

I am planning on adding a sump/refugium to my new 125 gallon reef tank. Ive never had a sump on a tank before.

use a pump in the sump no real heat issues i use a mag drive you want about 1/3 the overflow so the sound is not going to kill your ears get a good over flow and a pump with a prefilter foam, sumps are the best thing hide everything.

I have a Little Giant pump I have been running for four years staright no conflicts ever. I had to clean the dust of the fan from time to time but runs very quiet and so far so good. Definately got my moneys worth on that pump.

Mag drives are great and reliable but if you want a quiet pump check out the Quiet one 3000 and 4000. They are very energy efficient and very quiet. I have a 3000 thats rated at 780 gph at 40 watts and I can't tell its running unless I open the cabinet doors and stick my ear in. Petsolutions.com is running a sale on them.
