| i belive that a hang on refugium would help the slime problem, just as long as it is breaking up surface of the tank, that is what needs to move
i heard that canister filters, at least fluvals, will leave you with low Oxygen in the tank, but i think the spounges in side the canister will collect nitrates.

29 gal/ 10gal refugium with more things then I have space to list. with a 7gal sea horse tank slowly in the works |

| I had the same problem with my nano, I added a surface skimmer and solved the problem.. In my new 5.5 gal I did like the guru said and have my powerhead agitating the surface and it stays pretty clear....

I'll agree with reef guru about a PH pointing at top of water, it's all I've ever used to deal with top water slime, and make sure your light bulbs are new(or in good health), and you're not overfeeding the inhabitants(will cause unwanted algae issues).
For nitrate issues, only thing I know to do is good water changes every couple days, until nitrate level goes down, it's always worked for me. I don't know about the canister either. I will say not necessary, because I don't use anything other than the sand, rock, and skimmer. | That is a sweet rock, holy cow, how many different corals are on that rock? Great score!!! Congrats and good luck. | Has anyone use an inside the tank refugium to slove high my high nitrate problem? The diagram I saw had 24" length, 6" high and 7" deep. Since same water level as the reef tank all that is need is small power head and a syphon for return. |

| Thanks Luna! I got that piece about a year ago, it has done well since. I believe there are 3-4 different corals. Zoanthid, and 2 different shrooms, also a nice tube worm(not sure of name). |

| refugiums are not the cure all, the nitrates are being introduced from an oustide source, finding the source will aid the refugium.

| thanks, my nitrates are always less than 25 PPM just tying to lower to zero. In my inside tank refugium I would put two inches LS and LR rumble and lots of chaeto also since open to all to view would add perhaps things my fish would love to eat--small shrimp, copepods, perhpas a seahorse or two and some inverts.. Your thoughts? |
