The wastewater from the RO/DI filter isn't going to break the bank. When the daughter goes to college next year, we'll see if the reduced showers lower my water bill!
Must be nice!
Our city charges for the water, plus a charge for renewing the water system as required, and, a sewer charge for replaceing sewers. It is all based on the amount of water used.
I DON'T use RO and I still pay over $100 a month for my water bill. I'd hate to see what it would be if I used RO.

I was doing the math and the last bill that i got was for $61.38 and that was for 13ccf (here in Miami they charge in hundred cubic feet, 1 CCF=748 gallons) so i used 9,724 gallons in 3 months, About $6.30 per 1,000 gallons. They charge me for the water and for sewer based on water used.

All this is without the ro/di.

If i use well water then i wont be charged but i will have to start the pump and empty water into a tank then send it with pressure to the ro/di. Is this correct?

If you are on well then you just tap into a cold supply line in the house down stream of the pump and the pressure tank. Just like in any other house on city water .. Maybe you guys who don't like to run waste water to just go with a multi resin D.I filtration system and not a single mixed bed unit. Moat will give you gallons per. minuet

You know running the waste line to the garden during the summer sounds like a good idea. I never thought of it before. Since I have to make 200 gallons a month that is 800 that can go into the garden vs. down the drain.

Thanks!

In my house I have city water and then have a pump get water from the well for the sprinkler. I dont have a pressurized tank. I think I am just going to hook it up to the tap and use regular city water since it will much less of a hassle.

My RO/DI does not really impact my water bill in Atlanta...and I make a lot of water..I bet it adds 2-3 dollars a month....

What really kills me is my lawn sprinkler system...you want to talk impact. In the winter months, my water bill is $30. In the summer it goes to over $200. ouch!

Good answers about using waste water. Watering plants, using it for your washer are good uses for it. You can even use it for a bird bath if so desired.

zombie13, what your father has sounds like the permeate pump. The permeate pump reduces waste water by 80%, so the 2 to 1 ratio is about right. The permeate pump ONLY works with a pressurized storage tank, however. It will NOT work with an open storage container.

Blade_Runner, another advantage is that the waste water is heavy in nitrates and disolved solids. It's better for your plants than plain tap water!
