question about heaters

Will you are among the few then I have had every type of heater there is to have the element pop or glass bust.. They all but the element from a common few suppliers .. Like with a R/O membrane just a few places make then many put their names on them..You think Kent's actually makes their own Membranes ?

I like to have redundancy in certain areas heater and pumps.. I keep a new spare pump setting ready to go also impellers and seals and I have a few extra heaters also.. Point at hand my son called last night 9:00 PM main pump a Mag 1800 on a 135 went down.. What to do ??? I said look on the peg board to your left! (: I have /had two new impellers and seals and even a new housing .. I have been in the mechanical business for yrs and I have and I know what a small part is worth when its sunday night and a customers needs it.. You may want to rethink that heater deal ? Or not (:

well from what everybody is telling me it sounds like i will prolly get 2 100s then

I understand what u are saying about the heaters, what i dont get about running two heaters is they arent both gonna be so finely tuned that if u set them both at 79 degrees they are gonna both pop on and lighten the load for each other. Ive had the same name brand heaters same wattage both set at the same temp but independently keep the same tank 2 different temps. I use one 250 watt heater for my 90 and have 2 other 200 watt heaters on stand by as back ups.

what i was thinking that people were saying is have 2 hooked up but only run one just incase something goes wrong

Yes, two heaters are better than one. But if you have one little (undersized for the size of your tank) heater, say a 100 watt in a 55 gal, it is going to be over-working all the time, while the other one is off - unless they are precisely tuned to each other like within less than 1 degree. When a heater is severly undersized and overworked, that is when it is most likely to fail.
