| Powerheads? I'm setting up a 125gallon reef tank in the next month or so. Now i'm in the process of researching equipment for my tank set-up. I have a question regarding powerheads. What would be the best way to go regarding powerheads with regards to money, energy efficiency, performance and reliability? Of course there are the cadillac of the powerhead industry-Tunze Stream. But I don't have $280 for a powerhead and another couple hundred for the controller. This brings me to the next choice Seio! Does anyone have any comments regarding them? Also for a 125 gal. reef tank, what is a good average water flow for that tank with Acros, Montipora especially? Would The Seio powerhead producing 620gph or the next step up 820gph be too powerful if i had two of them in my tank? Any other suggestions/? _________ 125gal.w/Mag9.5 return(dual megaflow)>Mag7 pump Aqua Cev180skimmer.Wave2k Hamilton Reefstar(2)250watthqi(mh)pend.a Yellow, Naso Tang Red Lip Blenny Percula Clown Demoiselles Niger Trigger F. I have four Maxijets and the two returns in my 125 no coral yet because of my dogface puffer and need more rock but the water flow is good. There is also a thread that modifies the Maxijet 1200 and gets more flow out of them for less. _________ "The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing"

| Explain a close loop please? Chetrod, I have a couple of them now attached to my wavemaker. The only thing is they don't offer much water movement for my 75gal. tank. The Seio's offer anywhere from 620gph to 1500gph I believe. they are on sale at Drs. foster/Smith now! the Maxi's don't even put out 300gph. Thanks for the reply! |

| A closed loop is having water from the maint tank going to a external pump and back to the tank via piping. When power goes out or pump failure, water won't go anywhere.
Most people drill the back of their tank and install bulkheads to hook up the PVC to a external pump. You can have as much water flow as you want and no eye sores.
Some people use a "siphon" style closed loop, where they siphon the water out to the external pump and back to the tank.
