power filter

you know that filter thing that you hang on the back of the tank and put your bio balls into? Well i was wondering what kind i should get? I think its called a power filter.also what kind of bio balls are good?

I think your referring to a HOB (hang on back) filter. There are refugiums and some that are sumps. However if you have room under your tank I reccomend a sump/refugium. Also it will depend on how long you have had your fish tank going. If its FO (fish only) or if you will be having live rock and coral in it. Tell us more about your system, the price your willing to pay, and if you have space for something other then a HOB.

i have a HOB filter and it seems to be doing that job but its nice tohave a back up filter.I have heard the penguin HOB filters are pretty good.

Basically I am looking for a hang on filter for now- a sump/refugium will be added later (if you dont think that would be a problem). My tank will have mostly coral in it.

I was basically wondering what a good brand would be -penguin, ill check that out. Also, i was wondering if i need a bio wheel, a place for bio balls, a place for chemical filters (not too sure what that is, anyone can fill me in would be great). I also see that some say they have a wet dry design, what the heck is that.

On the other hand, if i was to go with the refugium right off the bat, what are the chances of it overflowing- they seem kind of a potential disaster from what i can tell. Also, I have been looking at some kits and the price range for them varies greatly. About how much would it cost for a decent, perhaps do it yourself, refugium/sump.
