Default Phosban reactor many uses

My phosphates have been great for a while now so I thought I'd run Purigen in the reactor. After a little MOD it works great

J - is that the official phosban reactor?
I just ordered it, how do you like it?
What powerhead are you using on it?
What have you noticed with purigen?

Yup it's official.
Very nice unit. It uses nylon screws to seal the top and they have used 1000 I think. It's a real simple unit, but you really can't beat the price. My goal is to use it with RownaBan, Purigen, or Carbon when needed.
I have it running with a Maxi Jet 400 and a ball valve come with the unit so dialling it down it possible. I believe the recommended flow rate is 80GPH so the 400 is rated @ 106GPH.
I've found with the Purigen, the partical size is too small for the sponge filter that came with it. I haven't quite figured out a permanent solution, but I think I will put the Purigen in a filter bag then in the reactor. I haven;t had any time to actual measure my Nitrate to see how it is working but I have seen a decrease in water clarity. I have another reactor (yes I bought two) to install on my 75G once I do I will post my results here.

Let me know if you need any suggestions on set up.

Thanks J. I ordered mine yesterday for $37! For the price I think it's a good deal and will be more effective than a bag in the sump where water can go around it.

Thanks for the info on the pump. I will pick one of those up this weekend. I am excited to set mine up.

(You've seen a decrease in water clarity, you mean increase right?)

Think then post(me). You could wrap the foam in a finer mesh so to beads don't ge out.

I have currently rapped the sponge with a filter bag. Seem to be doing well. It is very easy to get the purigen out of the reactor to regenerate it. All I have to do is run water thought the reactor and it will come out. the majority will come out just by turning the reactor up-side-down.
