Default Overflow, Wetdry filter setup... Noisey

Are they, by nature, really noisy? Mine sounds like the Niagara Falls... then the plopping sound when the water flushes into the wet dry filter setup. My overflow has a sponge filter which the makes the sound a whole lot more quiet... The setup is not as quiet as my fresh water. Is this normal. I just do not hear the same sound at my dealer. Please help...

PS the water level is normal

I find that if you put a loop in the drain to the wet/dry it will cut down on the
noise . if you are using a flexible drain pipe . leave some hanging like a trap under a sink that will help ! it may be a little noisy at first but after all the air is pushed out it will quite down !!

Check out the mod for over flow boxes at www.dursostandpipes.com
Look under popular modifications, then stockman overflow. I use this mod on my CPR overflow and it works great. I only get that flushing sound about once daily. The waterfall sound is gone also. This mod works so well that when I upgrade to a 220g tank I'm thinking about using an overflow box instead of the in tank overflows because there is less risk of overflowing my sump.
