| New Sump So loud!!! I just bought a new custom sump, Ive spent the last week trying quite it down. I'm going crazy, it seems like I fix one thing and then it causes another part to start making noise.
The return pump is a mag 9, its vibrating on the sump itself and the return pvc pipe... ne suggestions???
Also I made a "aqua silencer" in the prefilter box which silenced the upper noise in the tank but created a splashing sound in the sump,,, after trying to tweak it Ive decided that i need a certain type of 1" pvc to allow more volume .... It is 1" out side and has a greater inside diameter then your average Home depot pvc... ne one know where i could get some or just what it is called?
I spent alot of money on this so it would fit in my stand.... Im feelin like i should have just bit the bullet and put a sump down in the basement... |

| Thin wall PVC?
Do you have a filter sock? I found that the filter sock helps a lot with the overflow water making noise.
As far as your mag9, I run a closed loop with a mag7 and it doesnt vibrate viciously like you say. Have you taken it apart to check out the magnet and housing? _________ |

| I guess it would be thin wall pvc... I still dont know where to find ne... the pipe i have now is creating alot of back pressure at the joints and inturn makes alot of the splashing/gargling sound..
The pump is less then a week old, I dont think that I should have to take it apart but i guess I could,
Where would i put this filter sock??? could i put it on the down pipe into the sump?? |

| Yes the sock goes on the overflow pipe into the sump, it will filter out small sediment as well. |

| To cut down on my MAG7 vibrating against the bottom of my sump I took a piece of vinyl tubing, cut it in half lengthwise and put it under the pump. It helps...some...

| To cut down on the noise of the pump, buy the foam filter pad that goes to the aquaclear 500 filter and cut it in half and then wrap it around the pump with rubberbands so that no part of the pump is touching the sump.
Can you post a picture of the sump and overflow, that might help with suggestions. _________ 75g reef with Nova Extreme 8 bulb HO T-5 lighting, refuge, Remora skimmer, DSB, Seio powerheads, Acro's, LPS corals, assorted zoo's & mushrooms, Yellow Tang, Maroon Clown, Blue Cleaner Goby , Cleaner, Fire and Sexy Shrimp, Coco Worm, T.Crocea Clam, Derasa Clam

| So is the waterfall sound coming from the down tube from the overflow box?
And is the opening of the end of the down tube in the sump under water? |
