I run a total of about 1000gph in my 29. Since adding that much flow everything have been thriving. Of course, that's total on 5 pumps, not sure how 850-1200 from one source would be.

instead of one big one, why not just get at least one more small one?

1200 gal/hr seems like a lot for a 29 gal. usually you shoot for anywhere between 10-20 times you tank size, for a 29 that would be about 600 gal/hr. I also agree that two smaller ones are better then one big one. If you have too much water movement then some corals will not open all the way
