I use this type of heater:

Aquarium Heaters: Visi-Therm Stealth Heater

I had a glass heater bust on me a few years ago and can never trust another like that again. I have the 200w version and it's been great so far! Best of luck to you! My only advise is don't go with glass, if it breaks it's bad news.

Just 3 months ago, I had a 6 yr old 300 watt (Profile or Pro Fin? whatever Petco used to sell way back then) heater explode/burst/flash right in front of my face (no cover on the tank at the time) just before I was about to put my hand in the tank. I guess I came really close to being electrocuted that time. None of the fish in the tank seemed effected, and the heater was on a GFI outlet. Don't get one of those either, or if you do, throw it away at least every 4-5 years to be safe. Good luck and stay safe.
