Default Good UV brand?

I'm going to buy a UV if I can get some advice on a good brand ,also would like to know what brand power head you all recommend to run it .
I was told that by getting one,it would help keep my fish and tank healthier ?
In your opinion is it wise to hook one up?
Btw I have a 46gal bowfront.
Thanks for any advice!!!

I think most of us here don't use one since they kill the bad and the good stuff. I would only use one to get rid of Ick and only temporary.

For you that don't use UV's do you use QT before adding new fish?
Lfs told me to get a UV before adding anything else .
I just went though a case of Ich and no sign of it now ,but still lery of getting anymore fish .
Would you spend the money on a UV or try to set up a QT instead? thanks for your advice!!

Hey Thanks Reefkeeper. My clown came with ICK, if I remember correctly, and within a week of it being in my tank the ICK went away. I attribute that to the UV. I used it until the skimmer I had broke. They were set-up together. I don't recommend the skimmer that I had. It was garbage. I've never done a hospital tank. Never felt the need. I was running fowlr for a long time, with great success, but started adding a few corals. I pretty much have the same fish I started with, other than a dogfaced puffer (my son bought me) that ate a cbs (it took the baggie ride back to the lfs, bad fish!), a few misc. blennies and gobies, that back then I had no clue as to what to feed them, so they died. And let's not forget Big Blue under my signatue he was a great fish. Never QT'd em and acclimated them by floating the bag in the dark. Released them by dumping the water into the tank with the fish, which I DO NOT advise ANYONE doing, now that I know all the crap that the lfs's have in their tanks.

IMO I would get the UV and not the QT unless you plan on rotating fish or they die often and you are continually adding new ones....
