Expected pump life?-Filters, etc..-3reef Forums

My return pump, a Dolphin 1200 has been running flawlessly and quietly for going on 5 years now.

Wondering if anyone has estimate of TBF (time before failure) for this kind of pump.

Seems like 5 years is a long time. My skimmer pump went almost as long before needing a impeller replacement.

Am thinking of replacing and keeping old one as a spare.

Darn...seems the Dolphin 1200 is not available anymore.

Is what I wanted as it was so reliable, and would be easy to switch out with old one without any plumbing issues.

Anyone know where to get one?

Is it the SS or the TT model. The SS is a red/burgandy color and the TT is a blue-ish color.

dolphins usually last a long time, but they do use up alot of electricity. You can keep them lubricated well to help them last longer, I don't really think 5 years is that long.

Dolphins use no more then any others depending on the job the pump was designed to do. Like their Amp Master 4000 1.2 amps . But then you can get the larger Aqua Sea horse at 120V pulls 10.9 amp FLR But when wired to 240 like I do its just under 5 amps per my amp probe meter. The 1200 that Omard is referring to looks just like the ocean runners its a submersible or outside the sump type pump. Noting to maintain except the impellers . And they are still around just expensive like a Ehiem or Mag impeller ..
