I used a few sources for information on building one, the one I built might not have enough air line inside it but give me a few minutes, I'll login to the laptop and digup what I have.
basically you need PVC pipe, soft 1/4" airline (some people use pre-coiled airline setup for powertools", bioballs or like media, I am using Hexarings.. a Japanese product... a valve end-caps for the pvc, be back with updates

heres a good one
Reef Show - Coil Denitrator DIY 2

couple more
DIY Coil Denitrator - .::AquariumPros.ca::.
DIY Coil Denitrator - Saltwater Aquariums Guides' Extra

my pictures are uploading at the moment, when they are ready I'll post them. there is a ton of information on these things, some with the airhose internal and some with it external. the benefits of interally wrapped airline is that it looks a bit nicer if it's in the open, the benefit of an externally wrapped air line is it's a lot easier.

most suggest around 70 feet of airline, all I have is 37 feet in mine so we'll see how she does.

How large of a sump do you have room for? And are you planning to make the sump into a refugium or are you simply looking for having extra water volume and room for a larger skimmer?
