Default closed loop

i'm thinking about taking out my dual mj1200's and running a modified closed loop (possibly incorporating a scwd). i'm looking at some smaller external pumps and was curious if anyone has had experiences with any of these, good or bad....

-eheim 1250
-quiet one 1200
-mag drive 3

i'm leaning towards the mag drive 3 after an article i read about a closed loop system at melevsreef Closed Loop SCWD plumbing

all comments appreciated.

Heard of the mag drives. So far, nothing but good things. It's actually one I would of gotten over my rio hf, too late though.

thanks for the input rickzter. i'm leaning towards the mag drive due to the fact that i've seen those pumps used on closed loops before. if you go to the danner website, it states that the pumps shouldn't be used externally....

i'm just curious if anyone here has tried this yet....

From past experiance Mag drives leak on external usage. I would not use these pump for a closed loop. Look for a external only pump and you will be safe from leaks.

is the mag submersed in a sump or are you using it on a closed loop?

I have a Quiet One on a closed loop and it is for the most part quiet, along with the normal noise from a 125G setup.

thanks for the replies reef lover and fish fan. i may end up going with the quiet one due to the fact it is inexpensive. i don't know if i really want to take a chance using a mag for a closed loop if they are not meant to be used externally....
