O.K the center tap is inlet the outer tap is outlet back to tank you need some airline tubing and a petcock or plastic valve to control flow rates you use a sump ? You need to find away to push water through it ..Oh and its ready with th needed carbonate media you just need a degasser of some type to off gas the acids

hey thanks for that! i'll get a petcock - do you have any suggestions about pushing the water through?? do you think maybe syphoning would be enough? how would the water get out? would it purely be pressure forcing it back up the tube and into the tank?
oh at the risk of sounding dumb, whats a sump?

LOL what's a sump ? I'd dare say you don't use one then Its a smaller tank that serves as a reservoir under the main tank to hold heaters pumps and excess water for a reef type tank.. How do you filter the water ? a cannister type power filter ?

whoops sorry then, no i dont use one - the tank i have has an internal filter which houses the heater, and i also use an external cansiter power filter. must admit i am a bit of rookie with the reef. . . . .

i think i see what you mean, the outlet would go into the sump which in turn would feed it back to the tank.....mmmm am i screwed then and wasted my money?

No Its several ways to do it a siphon is also a option If you have the tank near a wall ? get some long air line tubing and a section of ridged air line pipe or hard tubing as some call it the ridged 3/16 pipe that airline fits up over and onto. Then put the end of that into the tank in a out of way area and you need to raise that up and over a hook or something about a 1ft higher then the tanks rim. Then set the reactor on the floor then add enough air line from that to go back to the top rim of the tank and add the little drip petcock or a valve then start the siphon and fix the outlet to tank so it can't slip or fall off the rim set the drip at 1 drop per second and wait about 2 months and you will be cycled.
Another option is to cut a barbed tee into the main pump filter outlet to tank and then bushing the side outlet of the tee to fit the inlet line for the NO3 reactor But you may need the restrict that pump line a bit to force water to and trough the reactor ..
Or just get a small power head and use that to push water into and out of the reactor right from the tank.

Oh I also like to make the feed water to the reactor pass through some sort of sponge to filter out the larger particals so as to not plug up the system or lines

ok...so basically use tubing to syphon the water out of the tank and into the reactor (with a drip valve), have the outlet tube feed back into the tank (im assuming the pressure of the water fill in the reactor forces the water out of the outlet tube), and bobs your uncle??

It will siphon if you take the feed line up higher then the rim or level with the return line.
