Default Best powerhead?

Just getting confused. 55gl tank... I was thinking I need about 1k of gph flow?

These two seem uppershelf...whats the better one between them? If there is one?

Hydor
Seieo

good ole maxi?
other?

Filters on them an advantage?

Does it need to be equal on both sides?

Ideas welcome.

Thanks,
Ser

Hydor four, Maxi modded with algae free mod or eco mod propeller, or a closed loop.

the filters on their inputs are bulky and detracting from your tank. Your other filters should and are supposed to be able to handle the tank by itself. Doesnt have to have equal, but erratic or waving.

Everones tank set up is different so the amount and gph is not cut in stone. It is best to avoid laminar flow and have more of a tidal/wave surge type water movement. Also, different corals require various water flow intensities, so this will need to be addressed as far as placement of corals and powerheads as well as the power of the powerhead.
Reading up on husbandry issues regarding particular corals and water flow, lighting etc. will afford you the best case scenario for long term success of your tank and its inhabitants!

You want chaotic water movement in the tank not just blasting things from one side. If you go with PH's then make sure you have a ground probe in the tank. Motors submerged under water is a deadly game.

I love the Hydor Korillia I have (3) #3s in my 120 gal reef tank ( I have a ground probe in the tank) I love the water movement it moves a lot of water without having it concentrated in one spot. You could use 2 #2s in your 55 and I think you will be happy with the movement.

I had 4 maxi 1200's(without the mod) but got the Hydor's #3 and #4. The change in my tank was amazing. I have no dead spots and the fish are more active now. Of coarse they now have the wavemaker from Hydor but you have to get the new pumps. Thinking about it. I hope someone gets it soon and starts a thread here about it.

Thanks for the input everyone

I made a chart and figured out the gph divided by the price, to break down the best value.

I think I am going to get the Koralia 2 #2's or 1 #2 and 1#3.... Is it a problem to have power heads face each other when they are not the same gph?

thanks
