Anyone using phosban notice a difference?

I am thinking about shutting down my phosban reactor today, because after 6 months, I haven't noticed any difference. Of course this isn't a scientific analysis, but I haven't observed any less algae or anything and this reactor requires floss on the output because it kicks out the red sludge even when dialed in.. so I am starting to think I should cut the hassle.

Anyone using phosban notice a difference?

well ive used the packets that you put in filter compartments...and well...dont really see a diff...i believe that the algae will leave when its ready to when i first started my tank there was algae and then after a few months it has all be run over by my coraline now once and a while i get some macro but i pull it out and its gone

I have been using Pura Complete in my fluval and have had no problems with phosphates. Levels have tested 0 and nitrates have stayed pretty low as well.

I used a product called Rowa Phos. It worked like magic. I used the recommended amount and in about 3 hours the phosphate levels in my 220 were almost undetected.I can't remember the phos level in the tank before I treated but when I used the red sea test kit the color was black.

I've found Rowaphos to be better than phosban by a small amount. Regardless, these reactors tend to work best to prevent algae rather than killing algae. Part of this is due to proximity. Bacteria will grab available phosphates the quickest, algaes will be the second quickest, and remote filters the slowest.

Beyond that, most problem algaes get most of their nutrients from what they are growing off of. In fact, one of the best things you can do to prevent common algaes is to turkey baste your rocks often. Many algaes can survive simply by sucking nutrients out of the detritus that bacteria spit out of the LR. Also many of them are designed to trap detritus and then they feed off of the phosphates in that detritus. Take a turkey baster to a tuft of hair algae and look at how much detritus spits out of it.

I just set up a reactor a little over a week ago using Phosban, I haven't visually noticed a difference, But I can not give a honest opinion as I was forced into doing that 60% water change last week. ............... John
