Well, I am fairly new to the reef-tank hobby. Set up a 10 gallon 'test tank' and it went really well, so I upgraded to a 25 gallon. I have 15lbs of live sand and about 20lbs of live rock. I have been collecting corals and inverts more so than fish. Currently I have some xenia, a couple mushroom polyps, some toothed corals(??), a leather coral and a few others. My inverts include a blue legged and orange neon(??) hermit crabs, a bunch of snails, a harlequin shrimp (he's been around since the beginning, happily), and some newly discovered nudibranchs, which makes me a little worried about my corals. I got really lucky with the fish part though; the first five fish were free. I had, not at the same time, a false perc, a bicolor blenny, a chromis, and a couple of damsels. They have all since passed and I bought my first fish a couple of weeks ago (two chromis, one has since died...). I am planning on adding a medium sized maroon clown and anemone pair, a red firefish, and hopefully a psychedelic mandarin goby.

Great site ! I found it by accident and saw all the great resourses you have available as members here, and decided to join.

About My Tank : Currently running a tank that I was breaking down to sell, but after months of debating the decision I decided to keep it. After going high tech for years I am back to the basics as I sold off almost all equipment. The tank is a JBJ 28 gal HQI, the only piece of equipment is a chiller.
Live stock includes frags of colt, xenia, montipora, and a lone sps (ORA red planet), a pair of B/W misbars and a YWG and tiger pistol shrimp. The tank was previously a sps tank, the soft corals where just hitch-hikers.
My plan is to keep it simple and maybe aquire some BTA's, that is really the only thing I have planned for the tank at this time. Despite the lack of high tech equipment and supplements the tank is thriving with just water changes every 2 weeks, who knew.

About Me: Love the science of this hobby and the beauty of wild reefs. Born and raised at Lake Tahoe Ca. and some how ened up in Southern Arizona ( serious lack of reefs here ).
Dealt black jack until going on to get degrees in nursing and marine biology.
Hobbies include reading, hiking, scuba, bird watching and traveling when I can. I just returned from a trip to the Monterey Aquarium so I am including some pictures. I hope you enjoy them and I look forward to being a member of this forum.
It was all white and almost gone when I got it.. it is starting to get some color back. its been about a month in my tank. Anyone know what it is?

hey guys,
This is actually my first post on this forum. I have had my tank for about 5 months now with no issues once so ever. About a month and a half ago i added two mated true percula clowns to my tank. They had never fought always stuck together with no issues. I have recently within the last week put a green long tentacle anemone in the tank, they were in it within a day or two. Couple days later the male clown fish looks very pale, but with no signs of anything else really being wrong with him. I have seen the female go after him a little bit a couple of times could this be the problem? Im assuming the female is getting territorial of the anemone. So i guess my questions is how big of deal is this pale clown fish, do you think the new anemone started territory issues, and what i can do to solve the problem.
Appreciate the help

Hi,

I just bought a kit from someone who quited the hobby. I have a 75 gal tank (with durso), 33 gal sump, big SWC skimmer, phosban reactor, a bunch of pumps and powerheads, RO/DI filter, digital ph meter, heater, T5 lights, etc..

It also came with 125 lbs of rock (now dry) and crushed coral....

Hi,

It also came with 125 lbs of rock (now dry) and crushed coral.

The whole thing is all crusty from the salt and generally nasty. I told the seller I was planning to clean everything but he told me I shouldn't.

I now reach to you for advice as I want to get the whole thing started this weekend. How clean should I make the tank? What do I use to wash the glass? How about the skimmer and the sump?

I'm not at home right now but I will send pictures of the whole thing.

Thanks!
