today i plan on adding the sand, and setting up the rock work, along with adding more water.will leave about 1/3 of the water out, to add water from my 210 reef, when all filtration is set up.

yesterday, i purchased a fu man chu lionfish, along with a volitains lionfish, and a niger trigger. the day before i purchased a beautiful neon green and pink wrasse. i "donated" my giant tomatoe clown, to my LFS.

the above fish are in my 29 gallon hospitol tank. they are all pretty small, so there is more then enough space for the short period of time they will be living there.besides, the lionfish don't swim around much.

i wanted to purchase these fish now, not because i am in a hurry to get started(who is'nt?), but because i wanted to observe them for a while, to make sure i did'nt introduce any disease into the new tank.
pictures below are of tank before teardown, at previous owners home.

I've had a 2 inch cowrie in my 75g tank for the last 2.5 months. he's been very active throughout the day. in the last 4 days, things have changed. first, i found him lying upside down. i righted him, but after a few hours he hadn't moved and it didn't look like his body was sticking out like usual. his mantle still is extended over the shell. i took him out to look a little, and his body moved around, so i put him on a rock. over the next two days, he seemed pretty active again, always moving, but staying just to one rock rather than all over the tank. then today he is again immobile, but now on inspection his body looks very shrunken inside the shell and didn't move at all. the only recent change is that about 5 days ago (the day before this started) i added 3 small turbos and 2 scarlet hermits to the tank. water chemistry hasn't changed at all.

anyone have any ideas what's happening? am i losing my cool snail?
Highlight of the day was when KOgle told me to turn around and when I did my boy was standing there with his white butt showing, :uhoh2: watering the front lawn. Sure am glad we live in the country. Kids! ;)

Well anyways I did a water change right now (about 40g) since I have not done one since I started setup, then letting it mix with old water and doing another water change later (15g). And going to try to hook up my phospate reactor this week to see if it helps.

Ok well. here it is.

At between 6 & 7 am this morning we were hit with either a tornado or a micro burst. They haven't told us yet... It went North to South. The North end of the town, where I live, in is like a war zone. I was on the west side of what ever it was. My house didn't sustain any damage, but my hubby's shed lost a metal panel on the lean-to part, some branches are down and my fence is crooked. I got lucky. There a bunch of houses that are unlivable. Some I couldn't get to cause the trees were all over the place. We didn't have as much damage because, when we bought the place we cut most of the old trees down. There were 6-80 year old Pines in my front yard and 5-50 yearr old pecan trees in the back. Had it not been for cutting them down, My house would certainly have taken a direct hit from any or all of them.

They finally put our power back on at 5-5:30, YEAH!!! I didn't lose anything in my tank, cause I went and got my boss's generator at 10am, so 4 hours without power. And my stupid little piece of junk "Backup" air pump didn't work at all. She had it from the last set of tornadoes. One hit all the trees in her yard and demolished a neighbors house but hers was untouched.

I got a bunch of pics while driving to my in laws to check on them so I'm putting in the link for kodakgallery.com, where I store pics...btw...good site

A very small town next to us, Kite, got pretty much blown off the map.

Oh yeah..I'm SUPPOSED to be in ATL setting up a job at the zoo right now...(wish I was there)

Also, my tank is in the process of cycling right now, are you suppose to be topping off with R/O water? As the water level in the sump area is getting low and almost below the return pump.

hey all,

I am still in the design faze of this project and I decided to go with a 115 gal tank. This is a pre-owned tank that I picked up on craigslist for $200, its pre-drilled in the two corners and the overflows are there. My first question is what should I use to clean this tank, it was used as a freshwater aquarium and was full and leak free when I picked it up. here is a few pics of it.

The Tank

Over flow

Can I remove these?

So at least I have a tank to start with, I am thinking of scraping off what I can and then bleaching the tank so it kills anything that is growing in the tank.

Seeing as that I own a bar "beer and wine" / pizzeria I was thinking I am going to put this tank into the wall. I have this wall that you can see from everyplace at the bar so I would think that it would go nicely there.

I know that I am new and I know that I have a lot of questions and thankfully the people here at 3reef have a lot of knowledge here and for the most part everyone is nice here.

I know I am going to need some good lighting, I am thinking maybe 4 400w MH with Tangsters recommendation on the south pa bulbs. not sure on the skimmer yet, due to the fact that I am not sure how big of a sump and ref I am going to build, I am thinking 100gal sump with a 50 or 100 gal ref. I know due to the fact that the temp changes from anywhere from -40f to 100f depending on the season I am going to need a chiller/heater combo. I am not able to cool the room that we are in so the temp will swing inside from 90f in the summer to about 65f in the winter. I have so many more ideas and questions that I will post as I go and as they come up.

any help or ideas would be great, or simply tell me I am out of my mind!

here is a pic of the bar and the draft tower! so if your in upstate NY and want a cold one stop in.
