Default Biologist: Post-'Nemo' Demand Threatens Clownfish

"Dr. Billy Sinclair of the University of Cumbria in northern England, who has been studying clownfish populations for 5 years, says the species should now be listed as endangered."

Story

This is really unfortunate. This article makes me think of the 10 tanks the nearest petco has filled mostly with little clowns. I don't know much about clown breeding but I thought they were one the easier side of the spectrum when it came to captive breeding.

What a drag.
I don't want to know what's up with 'Dolores.'

There are many 3reefers that have bred clowns successfully if you look at the Tropical fish board... here is one:
Clown fish breeding

Perhaps this can be a long term project at 3reef. I'll have to give this some thought, maybe we can network on this issue and come up with some kind of initiative. hmmm...

this is why both of my clowns come from ora. I try to buy captive bred stock. Sometimes it's not possible to get the right specimen but lately as I have gotten more into the "nature" side of the hobby I am starting to rethink alot of my tactics. Coral is another thing. Alot of our reefs are getting raped of coral faster than it can reproduce. it's a sad thing.
