geekdafied, if you have angelfish or tangs they will love all the extra algea, lol. I have 2 cleaner shrimp now, and 2 neon gobys. So they will help with the ick problem. Ick is never gonna go away, so we just have to learn to deal with it, and handle our fish right.

what is your QT setup like?
I may be able to get a 10gal tank and set it up, but does it need sand, rock and all that crap?

it is a plan jane 10g with nothing but a hob filter and a heater. You can put pvc in there for the fish to hide in. My hob was running on my current tank for 3 months, so im not to worried about ammonia build up. You will have to do water changes every few days. And bring the SG up lowly over a week or so.

more money down the [profanity removed] haha.. im gonna raise the temp in my tank a bit.. i read that it helps fight ich?
also, do you think my sponge is ready to be pulled? I have about 30# or more of live rock in it right now, and it seems to be doing ok. Should I be running the cartridge with carbon all the time? I really need to upgrade to one with a biowheel or something any suggestions? lol.. sorry for all the questions.. I am just tired of wasting money on fish that die

i would leave it till you get your skimmer in. Then you can use the whole HOB filter on your QT. I run carbon all the time. It helps keep the coral from fighting. Just make sure you change it every month or it will leach out the stuff it traped. Im not sure a bio-wheel will help. With the live rock, and skimmer you should be good to go. I say that, but in my nano I have a large double flow power filter that I turned into a refug. I guess I have no mechanical filterin, lol. My tank stays nice and clean though.

I have never understood refugiums.. so the skimmer will do away with the HOB filter, or do I still need to use both?? I am confused.. I was also reading something about a UV sterilizer, miracle ich control or just a myth?

well the UV sterilizer will help with the free floating ick, but no it want kill it all. Someone else mite step in here too, but I think with your aqua c skimmer you should be good. But I would probably keep it going untill you find out. I have one on my nano but it is converted to a refug, and my 100 has a HOB, but im in the stages of putting a sump under the tank so ill pull it then. Basicly a refug will house maco algea that will take up nitrates in the water. It will also house pods, that will flow back into the tank and feed your fish. I hope im not confusing you to much!! Im still learning too, .

You get an A for effort but I am still lost lol. From the pictures I have seen, a HOB regugium is a box that has dirty looking water and grass/algae.. wonder if I need one of those too lol

, I just took took the pads out of mine, and put live rock rubble, and some maco algea. Oh and a light. Its really simple, but yea it took me like a year to figure out why all these people had sumps and stuff, .

unfortunatly, i do not have room for a sump, so HOB is my only option which is why I went with the aquac. I am going to run out of space to hang soon
