Default Zoos

I just bought a nice piece of live rock with a lot of zoos, various bryozoans and macroalgae on it.

There are a lot of "buds", but only a small number of the zoos are open. The ones that are open are very healthy and fully open.

Can anyone tell me why most of them would be closed? Is it possible that they are too small to be open?

Also, I had a hitchiker on the rock. A snail that resembles a freshwater Ramshorn snail. It is black, has a spiral shell with a diameter of about an inch. Does anyone have any idea of what it is?

It's hiding, so I can't provide a picture at the moment.

If you got the zoos today just give it another day.
They can take a day to 2 to get used to your temp, salinity, water movement, and lighting. As far as the snail try to grab it next time and check to see if it is actually a snail or a lookalike that has a drill bit like mouth coming out of the shell. If so get it out. That may explain why your zoos are not out because it is actually feeding on it.

That must be why they're closed. I've ID'd it, it's a Heliacus.

It's not on the rock anymore though, I suppose it's hiding.
