Default Will Hydrophona burn Acro?

I have got a good sized hydropona (horn coral) in my tank. I have heard that this coral is aggressive. Since life happened, car broke, moved, yada yada yada it has now been a problem since I have like one piece of coral per foot in the tank. But now the ducks are in a row and I am going to buy a whole ton of new coral I am just wondering how much space I need to leave for that bad boy?

I would probably only have other SPS near it. Has anyone had any problems?

Hydnopora will sting everything and anything that it can "reach". Give it lots of space and/or frag it regularly to prevent it from stinging other corals.

Okay define reach? Its SPS and the polyps seem very small even at night. Are we talking touchings, 6 inches or what?

The coral does not have sweepers but it could release its nematocysts into the water to protect itself against neighboring corals. It can also encroach on nearby corals as it gets larger and it's a fast grower in the right conditions. That's why spacing is very important for a hydno.

No sweepers? What are those strings that suck the life outa all living things around them then They sure get long

FWIW, hydno is used by SPS guys to help knock back certain evasive corals (zoas mainly).

Yes, that appears to be a Hydno and yes they do have sweepers. Beautiful but mean and nasty at the same time. I actually prefer to deal with sweepers rather than dealing with aleopathic chemicals that a lot of softies put out and can only be removed with carbon, skimming, and water changes. With sweepers, I only need to know the distance I need to place other corals. With softies, I have to deal with upstream/downstream issues, constant carbon changing, and skimmer efficiency.

Interesting. Never saw sweepers on my hydno. Does it only extend them during lights out or something?
