new addition to the tank

saw this today and it looks nice so i picked it up, kinda bright green around the edge but cant really see it in the picture.

one question though there is 2 black spot 1 is like a hole at the bottom. is it damaged? will it survive?

I disagree about the health of the coral as it looks terribly bleached in that picture. Didn't you mention in another thread that your tank is relatively new?

Ditto. I dont see any death of any sort on it, so put it in a well lit spot and it should recover quickly. Open brains are hardy. Maybe you didn't know but when purchasing a coral, stay away from corals that look pale and white, because most times, they are bleached.

The good thing is that I see no death, so you should be okay. Btw, I have no idea what the brown spots are, do they move? Might be parasites.

yes the tank is reatively new the lfs shop owner says it should be fine when he took it out of his main diaplay tankn there is also another one with the same colour but 10x bigger. the black spot doesnt move 1 is just on the surface the other one is more like a hole into the actual brain.

also another thing the long tenticle anominies that was white originally is now getting darker in colour. light brown with green tip now, i asume it is doing better than it was when it first arrived.

its spitting out some dark thing yesterday im wondering what it is?

Some store owners will say anything just to make a sale. I'm afraid that adding a coral to a tank that is still cycling is not a good idea and it's quite possible that the animal will die. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it doesn't. I'm also surprised to hear that you were sold an anemone. These animals are most difficult to keep even for the experienced aquarist and is a definite "no-no" in a tank as new as yours. The brown stuff that's coming out of your anemone's mouth could be the animal expelling waste. It could also be an indication that the animal is dying. Sorry if I sound like I'm preaching but you must be made aware of how some store owners are dishonest when it comes to making a sale.

How old is this tank ? from the looks of the rock work the open brain is on looks like a lot of diatom die off to me. what type of lighting and water parameters are you keeping it in and under ? Anemones should never be added to any tank until its had a yr at least to age and then with very stable water parameters . Does the oral disk of the anemone look puffed up or swollen and maybe starting to gape or loose looking maybe ? Is it inverted and excreting a jelly looking slime from the mouth ? A close up picture of the anemone would be worth a million words (:

actually i do notice a slime around the anominies but its not from the mouth but at the bottom near the root. what is it? an indication of it dying?

yes i do know some lfs is not very honest over the yrs of frshwater keepin unfortunately

but i did a quick search on the net and they generalise open brain as hardy

or does hardy means differently for somethin like this than it is for a fish.

The coral is hardy when a tank is stable and is not experiencing any ammonia/nitrite/nitrate spikes like yours has and will continue to do so for the next few months. Also, the coral is getting off to a bad start seeing as it was sold to you when it was already starting to bleach. Did you tell the store owner that your tank was only a few weeks old? If you did and he sold you those animals anyway, he/she should be ashamed of themselves

A slimy anemone is rarely ever good. What kind of lighting do you have over the tank?
