| Re: Need I.D. on coral Looks like Blastomussa Wellsi to me. I know it as swollen brain coral. It is an LPS. _________ &&Right now I'm in the middle of a conversion from reef to Discus/ planted aquarium. Hair algae beat me down. Maybe a nano in the future. Everything screwed up so I'm converting to FOWLR. Wish me luck. |

| Re: Need I.D. on coral Thanks for the input guys. I did a little more research and in seems to be Caulastra (Candy Cane). Good I.D. Craig!
This may seem like a dumb question but how do I know if it is still living? I mean I'm only comparing it to the only other coral in my tank which is an open brain(soft to the touch). But when I touch the tips of the candy cane it is very hard and nothing seems to move on it. Is this normal? |

| Re: Need I.D. on coral Polyps should be fuller and "meaty" and the polyps have the same texture as an open brain (but you really shouldn't touch the polyps-oil from our skin will irritate the coral)
I keep mine in a medium flow/medium light area of my tank. Might want to move yours? |

| Re: Need I.D. on coral It's not meaty at all. I just purchased it the other day so I really don't have any frame of reference to tell what it should be like. It's totally hard. But the color is still there. Wouldn't the color have gone away if it were dead? I'm really confused now. |

| Re: Need I.D. on coral Here's a picture of mine. It's a different color variety but it's the same type of coral. The polyps should look "meaty". Mine feeds at night and this picture was taken shortly after the lights came on.
If you just bought the coral a few days ago, give it a bit more time to adjust to your tank. If it doesn't plump up within 2 weeks after you purchased it, I'd be concerned |
