| Is my Xenia sick? My pulsing Xenia has not pulsed for about 2 days. For dome unknown reason other that my tank is new my nitrites have shot up over two days to 0.1 ammonia, PH, nitrate, and Alk are all good. I am geting worried that my tank is killing itself. see the pictures. Oh and by the way they are not leaning from flow. |

| It is normal and quite common for Xenia to stop pulsing for no apparent reason, and is not necessarily an indication of poor health (at least that anybody knows of). However, you indicate that your nitrites are jumping up? Ammonia and nitrites are killer to anything in your tank, and I would attempt to find the reasoning behind it. Also, you said that your tank is new? How new is new? I certainly hope that the reasoning behind your nitrites being up and your ammonia and nitrates being "good" are not because of a cycle?
Really require some more info about your tank and it's chemistry to troubleshoot this one. _________ Kibbles and bits and bits and bites, and bacon and bits and kibbles and bits...... NOT reef safe |

| Your xenia is fine! You may want to increase the water flow and dose iodine, but the increased nitrates will actually help them.!! I know as I have had xenia for a couple years with it thriving over that period of time. _________ 125gal.w/Mag9.5 return(dual megaflow)>Mag7 pump Aqua Cev180skimmer.Wave2k Hamilton Reefstar(2)250watthqi(mh)pend.a Yellow, Naso Tang Red Lip Blenny Percula Clown Demoiselles Niger Trigger F. | It looks fine in color, that is leaning now that shouldn't be that is dying
but it might be trying to tell you that something other than NO3+ is out of whack
maybe the salinity like ziggy said, check your CA and the ammonia don't spell nothing good
you can add some kind of bacteria like bio zyme or cycle in case that you colony was to be
decaying. keep us updated |

| I would add a bio cycle type product too. I use cycle, it can;t hurt. Also xenia stop all the time. Mine have never but my friends have. I do notice that they seem to grow and do better if they are pulsating. |

| We have a huge colony of several varieties of xenia and although they like a lot of flow, if they are being pounded they have no chance of pulsing...It appears, at least in your picture that there is a lot of direct flow. Also, Xenia, unlike a lot of corals, do well with a slightly high nitrate reading as they like dom... _________ 72 gallon bowed 150lbs LR 60 lbs LS

Really require some more info about your tank and it's chemistry to troubleshoot this one. | Only wanted to say that it can also start pulsing again just as in-explainably. Explainably? Is that a word? |
