| Did you research that kind ? Most do just the opposite. If it perks at night I would guess that it is fine but just prefers night.
Mine are standard Red ones and the shrink at night.
Not sure if thats right of not but thats what I would guess.
\Cheers

| I agree, try to move them lower or shade them with a rock or other coral, try researching the species to see if it does in fact like darker conditions. Do you have any type of night lights, leds etc. ? _________ Equipment: 55 gal, Remora Skimmer w/ maxi jet 1200 pump, 4x54w T5 lighting, 2 super actinics, 2 12,000K actinic white bulbs, 55+ lbs fiji live rock... | Disappearing Mushrooms Hello Ziggy,
I have the same problem with these types of mushrooms. I use to have a colony of about 10 to 12 of them and they slowly disappeared one by one. The mushrooms look almost exactly like your with the stripes, sorta like wagon wheels. They really don't like bright lights! I made the mistake and thought they were not getting enough light and decided to moved them closer up like the other mushrooms which were spreading pretty good when the lights come on in the night time when i'm home. Normally I turn the lights off during the day time when i'm at work so that i can enjoy the aquarium when i'm home. Anyway, after a week I decided to go the opposite direction with these mushrooms and tried to hide them under a cave but is seems that the cave was not enough to shield them from the aquarium lights. Anyway during the relocation, one of the mushrooms came off the rock and floated away into a hole which is pretty much completely void of light. I didn't bother to go after the mushroom because the rock they were on was almost bare by then and I didn't want to dissemble the rock work to go after it. The next day I received a nice frag of xenias from my friend TinFury who is also online and had the same problem with those types of mushrooms also. Well as you know xenias do enjoy a bit of iodine and so i dosed a bit of iodine in my tank and approximately 3 hours later with the lights on, I noticed a trumpet like form appearing from the hole. It was the mushroom that broke loose trying to open up to receive more light. It seems these mushrooms prefer really, really, really low light and it may seem best to place them in almost total darkness and let them reach out for the light. I also think the addition of iodine might also be a positive catalyst that helps them to recover quickly. Today, the same mushroom is still in the same hole and everyday I notice it is getting larger as the mushroom forms it's trumpet upwards. Another observation I've noticed is that mushrooms really don't like to be placed flat on the rock facing the light directly. They seem to multiply quicker and get larger if they are mounted vertically towards the light. I figured, this maybe the way they help to regulate the amount of light. Anyway let me know if this kinds helos Quote:

| My exp. with shrooms have been the same. All the way on the bottom and shielded some what of the light. Becareful using iodine, you could wipe out your tank with that. I also made the mistake of placing the shrooms high in the tank once and learned my lesson after that.
