Can anyone ID this please, it has started growing on the same rock as my purple montipora? Also I guess it's a matter of time before one takes over???

Look under the mini brain (manicina). If this is what it is I wouldn't expect it to take over. I have several that just hang out :-) I haven't seen them grow very large at all.
