  | Getting some Frogspawn I'd like to get some frogspawn this week from the LFS, love the way it looks and hoping my clowns might host in it.
What should I look for when I am selecting one? I know there is some confusion between frogspawn and torch, how can I tell the difference?
Any suggestions on acclimation? How about feeding, do I need to direct feed them or do they filter?
Thanks all! _________ Tank: 75g glass, AquaC Remora, Eheim Ecco Canister filter, Odyssea (2x250W MH, 4x65W actinics, 6 LEDs), 80lbs of live rock Critters: 2 false percula clowns, blue damsel, lawnmower blenny, squirrel fish, 2 anthias, flame hawkfish, copper banded butterfly, coral banded shrimp, cleaner shrimp, fighting conch, condy anemone, and lots of misc snails Corals: Green stripe mushrooms, blue mushrooms, candy cane, frogspawn, Green Zoanthids, star polyps, acropora, monipora

| Just make sure the heads that are fleshed look open and healthy no receding flesh at the point of the skeletal attachment , As for acclamation I never apply this to coral unless there is a dramatic difference in the water temps of the bag and the tank.. Feeding is not required really But many like to feed corals . You can just plop a sliver of raw shrimp or squid into a head once a month or so. Each head does not and will not accept food. One eats the entire communal colony eats . _________ Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible (Doug Larson) |

  | Thanks once again Tangster! How can I tell a torch from a frogspawn? Seems to recall reading the fragspawn has multiple tips per "tenticle" where a torch doesn't? |

| Its really hard to tell one from the other . Torch's as a rule has the longer polyps with a skeleton made up of of thinner, lighter looking tubes. The very tips of the torch coral are a different color than the rest of the tentacle. Like purple to pink red . Where ass the frogspawns Looks more like the name implies like a mass of frog eggs as . Often times the tentacles of frogspawn are translucent with smaller little bumps that are more white or cream colored . |

| Torch/Frogspawn
Very important to know difference.
Frogspawn is a benign easy going and very hardy coral in almost all water and light conditions.
Torch's are not friendly and will attack close (or even far) neighbors. Only tolerates very good stable water params and likes a medium to strong light. May be difficult to keep.
(They do appear very much alike... ) Torch Coral (Euphyllia glabrescens) (Note single head on "arms")
Frogspawn Coral (Euphyllia divisa/cristata) (Note multiple heads/buds on "arms") ("Frogspawn" getting along great with other coral)
As far as buying, if getting clump, make sure most heads are healthy. (couple dead ones do not really matter in my experience)...
Make sure you see fully extended before taking home.
Large colony can easily be broken up and spread around tank.
Beautiful Creature!!!
Good Luck!
Let us see it when you get. _________ AG "125," AquaC EV 180, 30 gal sump, "SCWD", 80 lbs LR, CoralSeaLife "Moonlite" Hood, PFO 250W HQI Mini-Pendant (SPS HQI 14000k bulb)
12 Gallon NanoCube - 24w stock PC 50/50 light "...nothing good ever happens fast in a reef tank, only bad things happen fast..."

| torches almost always have longer thiner tentacles although they can have more than one tip per tentacle i have one like that its less common thouth.they typacly sting harder than hammers or frog spawns, all of them the euphillia famly that is can coexist toghther even if there touching tentacles.its bad canoes if any of them touch something else though.i havent noticed that any of them are harder to keep than another but i hear alot about torches being the most finicy of the lot.good luck with your new coral there some of my personal favrotes .if you get a clown to host id recomend not having a pair when they spawn they will excessivly clean the area they have eggs in and its often just under a polyp .i took my clowns out after they killed several heads.(gregs clowns are realy good at killing frogspawn lol ) )> |
