Coral of the Month, Orange Plate Coral

Common Names: Orange Plate, Orange Fugia, Short Tentacle Orange Plate

    Family: Fungiidae

    Type: Large Polyp Stony (LPS)

    Orgin: Indo-Pacific

    Aquarium Needs

    Lighting: Moderate

    Flow: Moderate to Low

    Tank Conditions: 72-78°F, SG 1.023-1.025, PH 8.1-8.4, ALK/DKH 8-12

Diet: Mostly Photosynthetic, but benefits from the regular feedings of zooplankton, brine or mysis shrimp. Regular feedings will also improve growth!!

Placement: Must be put on the substrate!! This coral has a very fragile underside. Care must be given to not damage the coral when moving!!

    Personal Observations

This coral glows better than almost anything out there!! Ive found that it loves to eat. Feedings 3-4 times a week will be taken at will. This coral has the ability to move. It will inflate itself to double its size, and slowly move across the substrate. Take into consideration lighting for this guy. With it all the way at the bottom, it needs Strong enough lighting to reach it. Ive found in high flow it will not inflate all the way, and will more than likely move to a different location. The orange plate is semi-aggressive, and will sting any coral that gets in its way. All in all this is a great coral, that will grow huge if the conditions are right. Be sure to keep the calcium levels up, as this is a lps coral, and will not grow with out it. HAPPY REEFING!!!

Orange plates are nice and they aren't too hard to keep, though they aren't as common or cheap as green ones. Their are other colors as well such as pink, blue and grenn with purple rims which are cool!!!!
    Goos job Michael!

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Otty they are realy cool. You dont think a little blob of a coral is neat, but they are. After you feed they, they get really big!! I can already see growth in mine, and ive only had it for a couple of weeks!!

Looks good!! Does your get white stings coming out of at night?? I noticed that mine will, and it gets a red fleash cover the edges tooo. It is kinda wierd but it doesnt seem to hurt the plate...
