i actuall lost the goniopora around december, i was duped into one by my lfs, lucky for me, and now that i am beginning to lose acros they are going back to the store right now, i have a penguin 350 filter on the tank as well as a red sea prizm skimmer, which is just wonderful..., other than that i also gutted an aquaclear 20 filter to make a hob fuge of sorts

What is in the penguin? Bio wheels? Are you running carbon? Are you running any chaeto or any thing like that?

yes the penguin is biwheels but i took the wheel off and i am running carbon and a phosphate remover, and yes i have the aquaclear made into a hob fuge that has about 4" of live sand and the rest is packed with chaeto

GEt rid of the carbon and use chemipure, JMO. And the ac is way to small. I used two 50s on my old 15 gal. Don't need the phosphate remover either, any pics>?

Godbert, I live in michigan as well. I have a Fluval 403 you can buy and hell I`ll give you a seaclone skimmer, not the greatest but better then nothin, you would just need a PH for it. I agree, dont add anything more to your tank. I know its hard to do but your just throwing money away on animals you cant keep just yet. The fluval will give you some surface agitation with the spray bar and provide a bit more chambers for media. As long as you keep it clean it should help until you can set up an overlow and sump.

Taking that wheel off could be feeding the problem put the wheel back in thats where the bacteria will grow to break down the ammonia and nitrites.
