I will also remove the silverside, as it hasn't eaten it yet. I have seen it eat pieces the same size that it has now, so I guess it doesn't wanna eat? Hopefully it pulls through. What would cause this brown jelly disease? Sorry I can't get a better pic, there isn't anymore mucus today, so that pic is all I have to go by.......but thanks for your help amcarrig! Karma! | Brown jelly is believed to be caused by bacteria. One way for this damaging bacteria to set in is by damaging the coral's flesh. Hopefully, the iodine dip will help. After you dip the coral, just set it on the sandbed in a medium flow area and leave it be.
Thanks for the karma |

| Ok I really think it is brown jelly now. I remember Bruce's colt coral having it, and those egg like things in it. Well the plate seems to have the same thing. But I'm not sure because it doesnt look quite the same as Bruce's colt (Bruce I hope you dont mind I used your pic, I couldn't get a clear shot of mine), but then again it does look the same........hope that makes sense. The egg like things on my plate are more string like, but squiggled. Like a pig's tail or a slinky. Well I did the iodine dip and put it back on the sand. So we will see.......... _________ 125 Gal Reef. | As for the handling and moving of corals, IMO it is better abd safer to move them by hand either with gloves or barehanded. The reason for this is that you can have better control of what you are doing and also don't run the risk of hurting it with a hard surface such as with tongs.
Regarding the plate coral, as AMCARRIG suggested use an iodine dip to hopefully contain the problem. I have a plate and feed it every day with brine or mysis shrimp with much success. _________ 125gal.w/Mag9.5 return(dual megaflow)>Mag7 pump Aqua Cev180skimmer.Wave2k Hamilton Reefstar(2)250watthqi(mh)pend.a Yellow, Naso Tang Red Lip Blenny Percula Clown Demoiselles Niger Trigger F. | When you put the plate coral back in the water, tilt it to get the air out, trap air will kill your plate. Post and let us know how it's doing since the dip.
