A 96 watt 10,000k/actinic 50/50 should be sufficient for your T. Crocia clam for an acclimation period, but will require MH lighting in your display tank for the best long-term care. What is the PAR rating of the 10,000k PC bulb? The 12" depth is minmimal and there should be the proper amount of light intensity.

Very interesting Gresham. I didn't know that the snails were nocturnal! Do you know if the wrasses eat the snail eggs, perhaps keeping the populations in check that way?

OK, I give up. I can't seem to find any published data on intensity for specific products. At least not on the web. Got a link? All I came up with was this "...summary of a talk given by Dana Riddle...July 19, 1997." .

The LFS has a 20" 1x96W (275mE ?) Coralife Aqualight. The guy I talked to on the phone said it was 50/50 10000K/actinic but didn't know what I was talking about when I asked him about the PAR. You think if I make a trip down there the data will be on/in the box?

I appreciate all of you taking the time to help me out here, I've learned a lot from this thread. It's also prompted me to do some more research on my own and I discovered that apparently "a clam doesn't like to have it's mantle ruffled by the current". If this is truly the case, the fact that my display tank turns it's volume right at 20 times an hour means I'd be hard pressed to find a suitable spot for a clam.

Anyway, now I have a few more things to keep in mind next time I succumb to moretankitis.

Doubt you'll find any PAR ratings on the box. I also doubt most LFS employees will even know what PAR is, "golf?" is what yoou'll probably get in return.

Clams don't like too much movement, but they'll tolerate more then you'd think. Its a clam by clam basis for that one. Some clams live in VERY turbulant areas, they have no problem with movement. My clam is right next to my powerhead, it moves quite a bit. It hasn't moved for over 2 months now.
