Thank you for your article. I just purchased my first clam, although not quite sure which one it is, and this helps me know I made a good choice. Altough quite by chance, I got the only one that wasn't gaping! I plan to put up a pix of it for identification soon as I get one.

alright, i understand that no clam is for beginners (well, maybe just the really lucky ones, hehe)... but say a guy wanted to take the plunge and get one, but was afraid of a wasted investment (it dies shortly after, etc.) which would be the "hardiest" of the tridacna's? preferably one that wouldn't get more than 8 inches or so... and with lower lighting (t5 HO) i'm asking this for possible future reference... because i really like these clams, absolutely beautiful! i'd love to have one, but with the hype that everyone seems to give them, i feel like i'd NEVER have the experience to keep one... | |

There really are no easy to care for clams that stay as small as 8". Compared to the other clams, however, the crocea stays relatively small but it is one of the the most light demanding clams in the hobby. | |

I'm putting a lighting package together just so I can keep a Clam. Always wanted one and now I will have the equipment to keep it alive. Thanks for the article Annick. Once Roger is done with me I'll start hitting you up on clam care....
BTW excellent article, bet you thought of it sitting in a Lazy-Boy...

Was just thinking when I was looking at some of those awesome picture ( ), it should probably be noted that hipoppus clams mantle does not extend past the edge of the shell. Since that's something you look for in other clams, people should be aware that it's not a sign of poor health when the mantle on a h. hipoppus doesn't. | |
