    Hey

Day 1. wanted to move the clam a little , it was attached to a rock. when moving the rock i felt that the clam was shaking , like it's not strongly attached. if i am remember correctly it was still opening then

day 2. clam fell out of the rock. i put it back to the stone it was attached to and it opened minimally

    day3. clam not open anymore

day4. clam fell out again and this time i see some white tissue attached to the rock. the clam's tissue ! The clam died the same night, it wasnt responsive anymore and it was sorta rotting.

i've been having it for 4 months. what could be the problem? the last time i tested everything was great.

    salinity 1.025
    dkh 9
    nitrates 0.1
    calcium 440

i'll test again later.. :-/ It was my first clam

You could have damaged it when you moved the rock, even accidentally hit the clam. What type of lighting did you have it under?

Also, how big was it and did you supplement it with filter feeder food?

its under 2x250w metal halides. i was touching the rock not the clam. he was already kinda loose at the time. could it be possible that some creature was eating it's foot /base? weakening/ killing it? :-/

i feed cyclop eeze and zoo max weekly or bi weekly. it's 3 and half inches. i read somewhere that clams do not need filter feeder food. i mean, there should be much nutrients in the water from dissolved fish food / poo right?

yea they feed off of bacteria in the water column, as well as ammonia and nitrates. But when they are under 3 inches they rely more on the filtering of food than on the energy from the zooxanthellae

Correct. The light should have been more then enough. Have you looked for pyramidal snails around the base?

probably pinched mantle as one side of the mantle was always not very expanded. but it's been like that since 4 months ago. does the disease take so long to kill?
