Default clam reproduction

does anybody know exactly how this takes place and how to make it happen in a tank? is it safe for the tank? i know that they spawn somehow but is there a male and a female? how often do they spawn? do the clams need to be a certain size and species? i know some of these questions are silly but i'm looking for the full story. thanks in advance. i know somebody here will know everything there is to know about the subject.

IMO, you don't want it to happen as it will pollute your water possibly suffocating your fish etc. due to reduced DO!
