Question Characteristics of a happy clam?

Well, the clam I got seems to be doing well.. Only problem is I am not sure what a happy clam really looks like so I was hoping someone could post some characteristics of a happy clam...

I wonder where that phrase "happy as a clam" comes from...

Cheers,
Jerid

Number one, the clams mantle should be open and extend beyond the shell. Also their should be no gapping hole in the syphon holes. The last thing is the response to light changes. The clam should close somewhat due to your placing your hand over the light to cut the light intensity. That is a sign of a healthy clam in a nut shell!
