You might be able to handle a squamosa at best. Your lighting is a little on the low side. Another note of caution is that your tang might pick at the mantle.

assuming its a traditional 55g ? How deep is the most important thing.

If you can make a little shelf out of tupperware and fill it with sand (so its not on the bottom) he should be HAPPY ! Honestly, anything but a maxima or crocea should be fine

Whatd i'd do optionwise

1st (best) - Get some 'shelf' LR and make a dish out of it (so it'll hold sand). Find a nice spot for your bowl + sand higher up in the tank (maybe 5-10" off the surface). Put the clam in it! The higher up you go the better (within reason). I'd say if youre willing to put the clam up within 5" off the surface you can handle ANY clam. <--Now i wait for chrisandbarb to yell at me :p

2nd - Use some tupperware to form your little "bowl" and fill with sand. Repeat above ^^ with clam.

If im not mistaken the lighting hierarchy goes as follows (usually - depends on exact animals)

Maxima - Most intense
Crocea
Dersa
Gigas
Squamosa - Still intense :p

i was close :p

not bad for only being in the hobby for less than 6mo !

id say clams for everybody mario! but tank depth/clam location (ie, sand bed or middle of tank). I'd say a tentative yes, but probably not with it being on the sand bed. Also look into what size and species you want
